Thoughts Become Things

We have heard the old saying – “Be careful what you wish for”? We have all met folks who seem to have great things come their way with seemingly little effort.  One thing we’ve noticed is that they tend to be optimistic and think positively about their lives in general.  And, we’ve run into folks who are cynical and think “nothing is going to work” and often it doesn’t.

We’ve heard the saying “thoughts become things” and we believe it is worth exploring .  With all of the things going on around us today, it’s easy to get caught up in negativity.  Recently we had the wonderful opportunity to watch “The Shift” starring the internationally renowned Dr. Wayne Dyer.  (Actually, we’ve watched it two times and are about to watch it for the third!)

There are many wonderful teaching moments in the movie.  This one in particular, came to mind today.  Dr. Dyer references Lao Tsu regarding the four virtues that, when we embody them, will make a huge difference in the way we think and look at our lives.

They are:

  • Reverence for all life
  • Sincerity
  • Gentleness/Kindness
  • Supportiveness/Service

Dr. Dyer goes on to speak about the value of touching another person’s life – asking “How may I serve?”   When we’ve had an opportunity to serve others in some capacity, something remarkable happens.  We stop focusing on ourselves and interestingly, our outlook and attitudes change.  Joy, humbleness and gratitude are just some of the emotions that creep in.  These emotions effect our thoughts.  Dr. Dyer made another comment in the movie that really sums up the whole notion about thoughts becoming things.  He said, “You’re only a thought away from changing your life.”

Though it seems simple, it takes a concentrated effort.  One of the ways we redirect our negative thoughts is to recognize when we are having one and immediately begin an exercise in gratitude.  We mentally list the things for which we are grateful and it’s amazing how we change begin to change our thoughts.  It takes some practice, but it can make a difference.

What if the world were different? What if the world were a place where everybody was happy? What if the world were a place where everything (animals and plant life included) was at peace? What if we, as humans, lived harmoniously with our surroundings? What if the purpose of life was to be joyful – all the time? The intention of this blog is to provide examples of answers to these questions.

We are all co-creators of the future.

Adhering to this premise, all of the posts that can be found at “Imagine Into Being” are intended to co-create the future. These “imaginings” are wonderful additions to the possibilities of what is to happen in the future. Every thought ever created is part of a grander collection of thoughts. The more times a thought is believed and energy it garners (by way of more and more people believing it), the more likely it is that this thought is going to occur. This is the perfect reason for this blog.

The world is aching for more positive and intentional thoughts to be added to the collection. This blog seeks to do that by contributing a number of intentional and very different possibilities for the world.

    The Intentional Sage
